Direct Primary Care: Treating Anxiety & Depression

By Michael Lovelace, MD, MBA

Thank you for taking a look at my blog.  I'm not really comfortable as a "blogger" but I think this is important information for my patients.

As we all know the year 2020 has been tough on us physically and mentally.  Many people are developing depression and anxiety symptoms related to their family situation, work, and just dealing with life.

First some basics on treating depression and anxiety effectively.  It takes time (6+ months) and trial and error.  If you choose to try medication, it will often take 6 weeks before the true effect of the medication is known.  At that point you and your physician will discuss adjusting dosing or drug class and waiting another 6 weeks to measure the effect.  With each person being unique in their response to medication the only way to find the "right medication & right dose" is through multiple rounds of trial and error.

Secondly, close follow up is important.  Discuss with your physician how the medication is making you feel and if your personal life has changed for the better or worse.

Lastly, treating depression and anxiety is a long process.  In part because it affects your sleep, energy, weight, and many more aspects of your life.  Thus, it is important to review all of these aspects of your health with your doctor, not just are you feeling sad and adjusting medication.

This leads me to my point about Derby City Direct Primary Care (www.derbycitydpc.com) and how I believe it is a better fit for effectively treating depression and anxiety.

**With DPC appointments are available within 24-48 hours and you can book your appointment online.  No more worrying that you can't see your doctor for 2 weeks if you get down or are feeling more anxious (which can cause anxiety).

**Follow up exams are included in your monthly subscription price of $80 per month for adults 26+.  If you are less than 26 years old, the fee is $50 per month.

**Longer appointments: Our appointments are 30 minutes long.  Enough time to discuss your treatment plan and answer your questions.

**More access: In person, zoom, phone, email.  You have access to your physician.

**No copays, no booking fees, no hidden fees.  You know exactly what your health care will costs.

**At Derby City DPC your medications are discounted to wholesale prices.  Working with patients we can create an affordable treatment plan for each patient.
